Florida has the highest share of baby boomers in the country. This boomer trend is likely to continue as more retire and many northerners seek a warm climate in areas such as South Florida where there is access to beaches and outdoor recreation to cater to an active and health-conscious lifestyle.
“People are more confident that they can afford that second home and can afford to relocate, which really benefits a place like Florida,” said Mike Larson, a housing analyst at Weiss Research in Jupiter.
The baby boomers are taking a somewhat different approach to retirement than past generations, deviating from demands for quiet age restricted neighborhoods. These boomer trends are affecting Boca Raton where new residences such as Akoya, a new luxury condominium in Boca West Country Club, are being built in communities that cater to adults seeking an active lifestyle.
“It’s no longer the stereotypical sip-lemonade-on-the-front-porch, rocking-chair retirement,” said Sean Snaith, an economist at the University of Central Florida.
Today’s boomers are also not looking for long drives to city centers. They’d rather live closer to cultural attractions, shopping and dining. This more active generation is looking for high-density projects closer to entertainment, as opposed to keeping to themselves in a sleepy retirement community.
Akoya at Boca West is surrounded by world-class beaches, shopping, dining and culture. Boca West Country Club, the Nation’s #1 Private Residential Country Club, includes amenities that range from five restaurants and a European inspired spa to more than 30 tennis courts, four championship golf courses and a new two story Golf and Activities Center.
In addition to the extensive amenities already located at the Boca West Country Club, Akoya will feature 140 luxury residences with extraordinary amenities, security, and first-class services. The contemporary nine-story building offers a collection of thoughtfully designed two and three bedroom residences with den or office options and 2.5 to 4.5 bathrooms, ranging from 1,800 to over 3,000 square feet.
